Week 25-26 — Summary

Release date: 25th of June 2026

This week's edition opens with a geopolitical shockwave for the AI industry: the US government has blocked non-American citizens from accessing Anthropic's most advanced models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5, citing national security concerns. Rather than verify citizenship across hundreds of millions of users, Anthropic switched the models off globally. The EU Commission is monitoring consequences for European users and for Swedish organisations with Anthropic dependencies in production, this is a live operational risk.

On the defence front, Sweden is allocating five billion kronor to modernise the armed forces with AI, 5G, and cloud solutions. The package includes a sovereign Swedish cloud for sensitive data and aims to cut decision time from detection to engagement from hours to minutes. Defence Minister Pål Jonson has pointed to Ukraine as the reference model, and the investment positions Swedish tech companies as strategic assets for NATO.

PwC's AI Jobs Barometer, based on one billion job listings, finds that AI skills now command a 62 percent salary premium globally, up from 25 percent just two years ago. In Sweden, AI-related job listings grew by 17,000 in 2025. The labour market is splitting into professionalised roles where human expertise is in higher demand, and democratised roles where AI handles more of the work. Both categories are growing, but at very different speeds.

Finally, a note from our own house. Knowit is at Almedalen this week in Visby, in conversations on digital resilience, defence tech, and Sweden's total defence competence challenge. We're also releasing our report on how prepared Swedish organisations really are when the unexpected happens, available at knowit.se/kampanjer/redo-for-det-ovantade.
